You are what you eat. You've heard it again and again. But what does it really mean?

Here is a simplified breakdown:

  1. Put food in mouth

  2. Chew and swallow food

  3. Food breaks down in stomach (provided acid levels are adequate)

  4. Broken down food enters intestines

  5. Probiotics (good gut bacteria) eat broken down food

  6. Probiotics “poop” out digestible vitamins/minerals, etc.

  7. Vitamins/minerals are absorbed into blood stream (mostly in intestines)

  8. Vitamins/minerals transported via blood stream to cells

  9. Cells absorb and utilize vitamins/minerals
Now, here's what happens (simplified) when the Standard American Diet (SAD) is consumed:
  1. Food goes in mouth

  2. Artificial flavors, colors, bad fats, triglycerides, white sugar & flour, excessive meat & salt consumption, alcohol, etc. all kill off Probiotics

  3. Vitamins/minerals poorly absorbed or non-existent

  4. Cells weaken and die

  5. Bad bacteria move in

  6. Immune system is weakened, inflammation is triggered

  7. Sickness, premature aging, viruses and degenerative disease are inevitable

So, in a nutshell, you can see that you really are what you eat, so choose wisely and eat consciously.
